The consequences of supply gaps in two‐dimensional policy spaces for voter turnout and political support: The case of economically left‐wing and cult…
2019
Parties with left-wing positions on economic issues and right-wing (i.e., authoritarian) positions on cultural issues have been historically largely absent from the supply side of the policy space of Western European democracies. Yet, many citizens hold such left-authoritarian issue attitudes. This article addresses the hypotheses that left-authoritarian citizens are less likely to vote, less satisfied with the democratic process and have lower levels of political trust when there is a left-authoritarian supply gap. Using data for 14 Western European countries from the European Social Survey 2008 in the main analysis, it is shown that left-authoritarians are less likely to vote and exhibit …
2021
In Bolivia, the third term and the habilitation of former President Evo Morales to the 2019 presidential elections was allowed with the acquiescence of the Plurinational Constitutional Court. Despite the fact that the Constitution prohibited it and there was a referendum that rejected indefinite presidential re-election. This occurred through the judicialization of politics that produced a non-formal reform of the Constitution producing a case of abusive constitutionalism and the destabilization of the rule of law.
Not So Much Societal: The Catholic Church in Poland as a Veto Player
2021
George Tsebelis distinguished two forms of veto players’ actions: institutional and partisan. In a democracy, the Church is not able to play either role because it is not an element of the state’s institutional structure. This was the source for Simon Fink’s proposal to look at the Church as a societal veto player (VP). The case of Poland shows, however, that such an approach becomes inadequate in numerous situations. The Church’s influence on political parties, and particularly the state’s institutions, may be exerted outside society. Performed on the basis of the existing literature and political debates conducted since 1989, the analysis of the social and political reality of Poland all…

2020
In ancient Greece, justice (limiting oneself passively to respect the rights of others) is certainly a necessary…

This is a transcription of the beginning of Walter Burley’s (c. 1275–after 1344) commentary on Aristotle’s Politics (book one, tractate one, chapter one). The transcription reproduces the text of Vatican, MS Borgh. 129, fol. 1r–148v (here fol. 2rb–6va), which has been accessed in a high quality digital reproduction in colour. The commentary has been dated between 1338/39 and 1342. The transcription includes two apparatuses. The first of them is dedicated to references, mainly to Aristotle’s Politics. The other apparatus is for critical notes, and its main function is to reproduce marginalia. The manuscript contains several corrections by another hand (marked here as V1), and since these cor…

2012
Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2012 The objective of this study was to investigate and compare the impacts rendered on the consumer choices and selection behavior cross culturally, specifically for the casual wear among well educated female consumers of Norway and Pakistan. The criteria used were based on the several cultural traits recognized as well as clothing values. The clothing values are basically the meaning or the types of associations a consumer form with the selective clothes. Clothing is a very integral part of one’s life. There is a small poem by William Allen Butler, called "Nothing to Wear"; It goes like this: Dresses for breakfasts, and din…
